Are you puzzling over what we could do to reduce smoking prevalence rapidly and equitably?

Repeal of the three “endgame measures” (denicotinisation, large reduction in tobacco availability and the smokefree generation) means we are very unlikely to achieve the Smokefree 2025 goal. The Rethinking Tobacco: New Approaches to Ending Smoking course will critically review potential new policies that Aotearoa could consider:

  • Disallowing filters and additives would change the experience of smoking, challenge the incorrect belief that filters reduce the harms of smoking, and address a major source of pollution
  • Developing new warnings could reach more diverse communities with messages that resonate with them
  • Introducing efficacy inserts could inspire people to stop smoking by offering practical tips on quitting and encouraging people to imagine being smokefree

This online course will present these ideas, outline and review evidence relating to each measure, and provide opportunities to discuss and analyse their potential impact on smoking prevalence in Aotearoa.
